African Futures Dialogues Series virtual event

Online (Zoom)

In partnership with the Next Generation Foresight Practitioners, Society for International Development is convening a fifth African Futures Dialogues Series, domiciled under the Africa Futures and Foresight programme, on September 30, 2024, bringing together the Next Generation Foresight Practitioners from Africa together with like-minded youth and thought leaders from the continent under the theme, 'Enacting Africa’s Vision for the Future'.

This Dialogue will take place post Summit of the Future and will highlight the negotiations fronted by the German and Namibian governments as chairs of the Summit, the African Union, and the correlations of the Pact for the Future and the AU Agenda 2063. Beyond the Summit, the Pact will be assented to by majority member states for implementation at the regional and national domains. It is here that we seek to engage with some of the representative participants from the motherland, the African Union, ECOSOCC and UNECA on the process of negotiations, outcomes, and what are the binding deliverables for the regional agencies and member states to implement in alignment with current commitments and aspirations of the AU Agenda 2063.

The structure of this dialogue will take a deeper dive into the five themes of the Pact, first through a plug-in panel, and second through a participatory futures process using the Futures Triangle to collectively think through, the PULL of the Future (what might Africa’s future look like?), the PUSH of the Present (what are the trends and drivers of change in the present?) and the WEIGHT of the Past (what are the patterns and weights of the past?).

Join us for these conversations and insights from the panel of speakers at the continental agency level as we review negotiations of the Pact for the Future and map how those align with the aspirations of the AU Agenda 2063; and contribute to our mapping of what Africa’s future might look like post-Summit of the Future.
