The East African Scenarios Project addresses the rapid political, economic, and social changes occurring in East Africa and globally, which have created significant uncertainty for leaders, decision-makers, and citizens. Initiated by the Society for International Development, the project leverages the opportunities emerging from economic liberalization and the gradual expansion of political space in the region to understand the forces shaping these changes and their future implications. The Project proposes new methods for leaders and citizens to examine the past and present through a future-oriented lens. It aims to catalyze and promote dialogue between decision-makers and citizens about the future of their countries and the region, exploring their roles in shaping or responding to these unfolding changes.

Major Outputs and Resources

The East African Scenarios Project produced many outputs, such as a series of Annual State of East Africa Reports, with the aim of helping politicians, technocrats, business leaders, civil society leaders, and citizens critically consider the futures they may face and test how they might respond to various situations.
