Accra Political Statement on Inequalities

In April 2014, a diverse gathering of African governments, regional institutions, civil society, private sector representatives, human rights advocates, development practitioners, academics, and development partners came together in Accra, Ghana. Hosted by the Government of Ghana and in collaboration with national, regional, and international organizations, the Pan African Conference addressed inequalities in the context of Africa’s structural transformation. The resulting Accra Political Statement reflects a unified commitment to tackle inequality—a central challenge across the continent.

This declaration emphasizes that while Africa has experienced significant growth, persistent inequalities in income, access to essential services, and job opportunities continue to hinder sustainable development. The statement calls for a transformative agenda prioritizing inclusive growth, economic diversification, and equitable access to resources. It advocates for policies that address economic, social, and political disparities, highlighting the critical role of both state-driven initiatives and broad collaboration across society.
