Readings on Inequality in Kenya: Sectoral Dynamics and Perspectives

This publication builds on the foundation laid by SID's 2004 report, Pulling Apart: Facts and Figures on Inequality in Kenya, aiming to deepen the conversation on inequality in Kenya by examining its sectoral dynamics and underlying causes. While the initial report sparked a national debate by presenting stark inequalities in income, health, and education, this follow-up seeks to explore the complexities behind these disparities, such as the roles of institutions, policies, and historical factors.

By raising critical questions and highlighting knowledge gaps, this report invites policymakers, scholars, and the public to engage in an open and informed discourse on how to address inequality in Kenya effectively. It also underscores the need for comprehensive and nuanced approaches to inequality, stressing that sustainable solutions require not only recognizing the scale of the issue but also understanding its multifaceted nature.
